Survey Finds Dangerous Toys on Colorado Store Shelves

Dangerous or toxic toys can still be found on America’s store shelves, according to the CoPIRG Foundation’s 28th annual Trouble in Toyland report.  The survey of hazardous toys found that despite recent progress, consumers must still be wary when shopping this holiday season.

A new report by CoPIRG Foundation found that the most complained-about credit reporting agency in Colorado is Experian, and that Colorado ranks 12th nationally in credit report complaints per 100,000 residents.

Foodborne Illness Racks Up $1.1 million in Economic Costs in Colorado

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) delays in implementing the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act have put Colorado lives at risk and cost the country $22 million in economic costs, according to a new report by the CoPIRG Foundation. Here in Colorado in the last 12 months, 38 people were made sick from foodborne illnesses and the cost in Colorado was $1.1 million. Contaminated food makes 48 million Americans sick every year.

Food Safety Scares 2013

Over the past few years, Americans have grown accustomed to seeing headlines about tainted food being recalled and pulled off store shelves. These high-profile recalls leave many Americans wondering whether enough is being done to reduce the risk of contaminated food and foodborne illness. And they are right to do so—48 million people get sick from eating tainted food each year, and despite significant costs to our economy and Americans’ public health, the number of such illnesses, particularly from Salmonella, has remained stagnant for at least 5 years.
